ALBANY, NY – The Cuomo Administration announces additional investments to boost tourism in Upstate New York including enhanced funding for snowmobile trails throughout the state as it touts the success of the Third Annual Adirondack Challenge.
The investment includes $500,000 for New Cross-Border Marketing Campaign and $425,000 to Support Snowmobile Trails across New York State. Since 2011, New York State has invested $130 Million to Promote Tourism. This has resulted in a 12% increase in visitation to 227.5 Million, a 16% increase in visitor spending to $62.5 Billion, and a 15% increase in jobs to 884,200. The snowmobiling industry has an enormous impact on tourism in upstate New York, with an estimated $828 million of economic activity annually.
The funding for the Snowmobile Trail Fund will be used for the upkeep of more than 10,000 miles of trail that draws riders from near and afar.
“We applaud Governor Cuomo and his efforts to support tourism growth in New York State,” said NYSSA Executive Director, Dominic Jacangelo. “Snowmobiling is a family-friendly winter activity that gives people a unique opportunity to see New York’s amazing places on the more than 10,400 miles of snowmobile trails. The safety of all riders is a top priority of NYSSA. This increased funding allows us to further our mission, and we thank the Governor for recognizing this need.”
“New York State offers some of the best snowmobile experiences in the country. Our 230 snowmobile clubs work tirelessly to provide everyone a great snowmobile experience on our 10,400 miles of trail. I am confident that if you visit the state once to snowmobile, you will be back many times in the future. We thank the Governor for this initiative that will bring more snowmobilers to the state, bring more economic activity to the businesses that depend on our sport and better support the 230 snowmobile clubs which care for this great trail system,” said Jim Elmore NYSSA President.
Earlier this year the Governor established a free weekend to invite out of state snowmobilers to enjoy New York’s fine trail system. While good snow was limited to the Chautauqua and Tug Hill areas both areas saw a good influx of riders for the weekend and reports were that restaurants and hotels were filled. “We thank the Governor for making NY Snowmobiling part of the winter tourism experience!” added NYSSA Vice President Craig La Plante.
