FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: New York State Snowmobile Association to Meet in Liverpool This weekend’s meeting highlighted by educational sessions and legislative awards; 700 expected. April 13, 2009, Syracuse, NY - The New York State Snowmobile Association (NYSSA) will host 700 club delegates this weekend at the 2009 NYSSA Annual Meeting and Forum at the Holiday Inn Conference Center in Liverpool, April 17th through 19th. The event includes an array of educational sessions, the NYSSA Expo, and awards presentations. Invitees for the forum include Senator David Valesky (D-Oneida), Assemblywoman RoAnn Destito, (D-Rome), NYS Canal Corporation Director Carmella Mantello, and David Holder, President of the Syracuse Convention and Visitors Bureau. The educational offerings include a wide variety of topics from basic computer skills and public relations training to snowmobile trail grooming and chainsaw operator safety. Attendees will select from numerous sessions to help manage snowmobile club operations, and learn about best practices shared by other club representatives. The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) will present updates on issues related to state administration of the snowmobile trail fund. Saturday’s award luncheon provides an opportunity to recognize outstanding contributions to recreational snowmobile trails and volunteerism. Awards for Snowmobile Club of the Year, Most Valuable Snowmobiler of the Year, and Trail Groomer of the Year are but a few of the highlights that serve as a backdrop for the business of snowmobiling in New York State. “Without the strong volunteer base that keeps the 230 snowmobile clubs in New York strong, there could be no statewide network of trails,” said Jim Jennings, NYSSA Executive Director. Jennings also stated that more than 100,000 NYSSA members fuel a $1 billion annual economic impact to New York State. “We are pleased to recognize the volunteers that drive the sport of snowmobiling, which provides an important piece of the state economy, especially during winter months,” Jennings said, adding “Many upstate businesses depend on snowmobiling to survive the winter.” NYSSA President Michael Fischer will acknowledge the contributions of NYS legislators to snowmobiling in New York State, and will present NYSSA legislative awards to two elected officials from upstate NY. “Without the support of Senator Valesky and Assemblywoman RoAnn DeStito, the sweep of $1 Million from the snowmobile trail fund would have left our member clubs high and dry,” Fischer said. “Restoring those funds was critical to snowmobile trail safety in the past season and for years to come,” he added. The NYSSA Forum will wrap up on Sunday with the association’s annual business meeting, including approval of the 2009-2010 operating budget and election of officers. Founded in 1975, NYSSA is the voice of more than 100,000 snowmobilers in New York State, and provides support for the 230 local clubs that maintain local snowmobile trails.
